BEST CHEMICAL CO (S) PTE LTD RESTOCKS ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL DISINFECTANT AND UNVEILS NEW BLEACH DISINFECTANT FOLLOWING THEIR INCLUSION IN THE NATIONAL ENVIRONMENT AGENCY’S INTERIM LIST OF HOUSEHOLD PRODUCTS AND ACTIVE INGREDIENTS FOR DISINFECTION OF COVID-19 (CORONAVIRUS DISEASE 2019) VIRUS AT FIRST-EVER NIGHT SALE ON FRI, 21 FEB 2020
SINGAPORE, 19 Feb, 2020 – Best Chemical Co (S) Pte Ltd (‘BestChem’) announced that its BestChem Disinfectant and BestChem Bleach (Disinfectant) both of which are included in the National Environment Agency’s Interim List of Household Products and Active Ingredients for Disinfection of COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease 2019) Virus1 will be available for purchase during its first-ever, walk-in night sale on Friday, 21 February 2020 between 7pm to 11pm at 60 Senoko Road, Singapore 758124.
BestChem Disinfectant contains 60% to 70% isopropyl alcohol (isopropanol) which exceeds the minimum 50% isopropanol working concentration recommended by NEA to be effective against coronaviruses. The use of isopropyl alcohol containing between 60% to 90% alcohol has been proven to be rapidly antimicrobial against bacteria, fungi, and viruses2. At the upcoming night sale, every person can purchase up to a total of eight (8) liters of BestChem Disinfectant which will be available in 500-ml (spray) and 1-liter (refill) bottles. Each individual can buy a maximum of four (4) 500-ml (spray) bottles at S$20.00 each while the 1-liter (refill) ones will be sold for S$25.00 each.
The newly launched 3.8-liter BestChem Bleach (Disinfectant) which contains 3.5% to 4.5% of sodium hypochlorite will also make its debut at S$5.00 per bottle. The typical use of bleach is at a dilution of 1:100 of 5% sodium hypochlorite resulting in a final concentration of 0.05%. The working concentration for BestChem Bleach (Disinfectant) after proper dilution is between 0.08% to 0.11% which falls within NEA’s recommended working concentration range of 0.05% to 0.5% to be effective against coronaviruses. Recent studies have also shown that 0.1% sodium hypochlorite can significantly reduce coronavirus infectivity on surfaces within just one (1) minute exposure time3.
“We decided to organize a night sale this time to make it easier for those who have to work in the day to swing by our place at their convenience. It is relatively cooler with less congestion [at night] here compared to in the day,” said Mr Johnny Wong, Managing Director of BestChem. “Given repeated calls [by members of the public] for us to bring in more disinfectants, we are glad we managed to secure additional stocks in the shortest time possible but not without some added costs due to shortages and soaring prices of raw materials globally,” he added. “In view of the current climate, we are also exploring new avenues and opportunities to make our disinfectants more readily and widely available to more Singaporeans after the night sale.”
All prices above are inclusive of GST. Cash and NETS payment will be accepted during the night sale. Weather permitting, the walk-in sale will proceed as planned while stocks last. Requeueing and queue-cutting will not be tolerated and the company reserves the right to refuse sale or service to anyone at its sole discretion (e.g. due to disorderly conduct). As the above products contain alcohol and/or are flammable, only persons above the age of 18 will be allowed to make purchases then.
The upcoming walk-in sale follows from a previous one held in the day which drew 300 to 400 people to purchase its 1-liter and 4-liter bottles of isopropyl alcohol (isopropanol) on Thursday, 06 February 2020. These were previously available for sale via the company’s E-shop and other online platforms, including Qoo10, Shopee and Lazada. Due to overwhelming demand, BestChem has since suspended the online sale of its disinfectants until further notice.
