DNCC sues Marshal Agrovat for fraudulence in importing BTI

Dhaka, Bangladesh (newagebd.net) — August 22, 2023 — The Dhaka North City Corporation on Monday filed a case against Marshal Agrovat Chemical Industries Ltd for importing BTI without following the terms and condition of contract in the tender.

DNCC spokesperson Mokbul Hossain said that they filed the case with the Gulshan Police Station on Monday night for fraudulence in importing Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis, or BTI.

BTI is used to eliminate larvae of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, carriers of dengue virus.

The fraudulence was detected when the country had been witnessing surge in dengue cases and deaths.

Amid the surge, the DNCC imported BTI in a bid to give the city dwellers relief from dengue infection by killing mosquito and, on August 7, the city corporation started spraying BTI to kill mosquito.

Marshal Agrovet supplied the BTI to DNCC and claimed that the larvicide was imported from Singapore based company Best Chemical, following the terms and condition of the contract with the city corporation.

However, the Singapore based company said that they didn’t supply any BTI to any Bangladeshi company.

Later, the cheating was disclosed in media that the pesticide was imported from a Chinese company which was a clear violation of tender condition.

DNCC had already blacklisted Marshal Agrovat and cancelled its purchase order with the company for importing BTI for breaching the contract.
